Worksheet 1:  Finding Zeroes of Polynomial Functions

Skills Practiced:  methods of factoring, using the quadratic formula, working with real & complex numbers, relating the formula defining a function f(x) to its graph, visualizing & sketching the graph of a function.

Written Assignment:  For each polynomial function below find all of its zeroes, identify any x-intercepts, identify the type of end behavior, and try to sketch its graph as well as you can with this information. Note: try to do this by hand, before checking it on your graphing calculator.

Skills Assessment:  We will have a quiz on this activity one week from today, without graphing calculators.

Part 1.

f(x) = x^2-3*x

f(x) = x^3-3*x^2

f(x) = x^4-3*x^3
