Name__Sample Solution______                         CKM:  Makoid-Banakar Drug Dissolution

DM Exercise 3 (To check your work use the Maple Interactive Text: DM-CCW1.mws.)
Construct a dissolution profile for 400 mg of a drug with total dissolution in 8 hours, using the following Makoid-Banakar dissolution model where n = 4/3:

(a) Find the derivative of drug_d(t) (which D-Rules do you need here?), and a formula for t_peak by setting this derivative equal to zero and solving for t.

(b) Using (a) above, solve for the values of k and c, and write out the final form of drug_d(t).

(c) Using each of the functions below, compute the percentage dissolution for each one after 2 hours. Also, accurately label the plot below with these values.

(d) Explain how you could determine exactly when dissolution is proceeding the fastest for your model drug_d(t). Another way to say this is for you to explain how to find the time at which the dissolution rate is a maximum. (If you can actually do it, even better.)
