Select a Question: 1. , 2. , 3. , 4. , 5. , 6.  or 7.

1. The MTS (Mastery TASK System) was used as the primary method of assessment and grading. The MTS is a learning-by-doing approach with continuous assessment using weekly TASK Performances and Revisions. Please describe whether or not the MTS helped your math learning and/or your grade in the course.

Yes, it helped because if you don't understand something you get a second chance at it and don't blow your whole grade and get depressed.

Yes, it did. I felt I always knew what was to be done and when it was supposed to be turned in, which kept me motivated.

I think that it does improve the grades and learning. I think that the task revisions are very helpful. You have a chance to see what you are doing wrong and to fix it to help improve your grade.

I thought it worked very well. In high school, I ....ed at math. Somehow, the way Dr. Pais presents material helps me understand much better.

Provided more insight into the calculus field for me. The mastery task provided me with thorough explanations and answers that enabled me to learn and fix my mistakes as I go.

The MTS has helped my math learning and my grade in the class. It is easier for me to understand this way.

At first I was confused by the system since it was a lot different than other teachers' methods, but it didn't take long to get used to, and it has really allowed me to do a real good job of learning the material.

Select a Question:  1. , 2. , 3. , 4. , 5. , 6.  or 7.

2. This course is called "CKM" (Calculus for Kinetic Modeling) since most of the math concepts are introduced, explained, and exemplified using material developed and drawn from chemical, enzyme, and drug kinetics. How important was this kinetics approach to your learning, understanding, and/or remembering the math ideas? Did it help or hinder?

Helped because now I see how it relates to what I am doing, so this doesn't seem like a worthless class.

I actually liked it. The manner and approach made it interesting and actually made it seem like I was taking a class which related to Pharmacy. I think that helped in the learning process and motivation for the class.

I think being able to see the graphs and also relating calculus to pharmacy makes a big difference.

It helped since we had something to apply the math ideas to.

It helped to pull everything together for me by applying it towards the pharmacy field.

It helped me.

I like applying the math to real subjects. It helps me learn because I can visualize it occurring. Also, I like to know that what I'm learning is applicable to my profession.

Select a Question:  1. , 2. , 3. , 4. , 5. , 6.  or 7.

3. Please describe whether or not you felt that using the interactive computer text and CCWs (Computer Classworks) in the lab provided a helpful way to explain new concepts and/or visualize the math ideas.

Yes, it helped. I could "see" what was happening to the graphs instead of being told.

Definitely. To be able to see what was going on not only what it looked like but how it worked and moved. The CCW program kept my interest in the class. It is a great program and nothing needs improvement. Except, in the future, maybe the program can be downloaded on computers at our homes.

I believe it does help when you can watch the movies and see exactly how the graphs are changing.

The CCWs help a lot too, but I prefer to learn in the classroom, not the lab.

I did not feel that it was helpful for me. I am not a visual person, so it was not important and did not guide me towards a helpful learning process.

I felt that using the computer text and CCWs were helpful in explaining new concepts.

I would say the best part of the CCWs are the graphs on Maple. They really help visualize the problem.

4. The one thing I liked most about this course is:

Putting calculus into terms of kinetics so I can see why I need it.

Dr. Pais' enthusiasm when teaching the material. Participation is encouraged, and no matter what answer you give, he always encourages you to keep going and participate.

It was a calculus course that related to pharmacy.

The class size is small, and this made it easier to ask questions when I didn't understand something.

Being able to apply calculus to the pharmacy field. Having the T.A. check my homework.

The way it is set up and taught as compared to other math classes.

The teaching methods of the MTS and CKM.

Select a Question:  1. , 2. , 3. , 4. , 5. , 6.  or 7.

5. The one thing I woud most liked to see changed is:

Would like to get Maple at home.

Really nothing.

Somehow have Maple [available] so students can do more at home.

Sometimes a homework assignment was too much (e.g. PPA Doses). We have to deal with Chemistry and Biology, two very hard courses, and frankly I don't think we had time to deal with such a large assignment.

More organized textbooks. Some of the stuff that was taught seemed like busy work for me.

Nothing.

Sometimes I thought the CCW was kind of repetitive and boring, but that's probably what allowed me to learn the material well.

Select a Question:  1. , 2. , 3. , 4. , 5. , 6.  or 7.

6. Reflect on whether or not you feel that you gave your best effort in the course. What do you think you might have done differently that could have improved your math learning?

Yes I gave my best effort. I actually learned something in a math class. You should be proud!

I did. I have never done so good in math or learned so much for any class in one semester.

I feel I have learned a lot in this course. Dr. Pais is an excellent teacher and breaks it down so it is easier to understand.

I think I gave a good effort. I could have paid more attention.

I did not give my best effort in this class. To me, math is very simple, and I can easily grasp the math concepts taught in the class.

I feel I learned as much as I could, and I don't feel it could have improved much more.

Yes, I did give my best effort and learned as much as possible.

Select a Question:  1. , 2. , 3. , 4. , 5. , 6.  or 7.

 7. Any other suggestions for improvement, regarding the instructor, course content, or structure?

Somehow, rebind the book so it goes in order. Sometimes it was hard to follow where we were.

None.

Overall, I think the course was good with all of the different learning tools that were used.

N/A.

No.

No, I think Pais is an excellent teacher.
